"Everything starts in California." This adage was reinforced when the immensely popular post-World War II street "hot-rod" autos invaded the midget auto and Indy type sprint car's hallowed Southern California dirt race tracks.
In 1947 came the hot-rods country cousin---"Stock Cars"---nothing more than a high school students auto stripped down, souped up, with a safety belt added. Throw in a Floyd Clymer helmit and America had next years speedway stars. By 1949 this vibrant young breed had migrated to and invaded Michigan.
